Friends is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1994 to 2004, and is one of the most financially profitable sitcoms of all time. The writing crew of Arrested Development named three episodes of Season Two after Friends as a response to Fox Network's request they emulate Friends to gain a larger audience.
Every Friends episode title would start off with the words "The One Where..." This is mocked in the following Arrested Development episodes:
- "The One Where Michael Leaves"
- "The One Where They Build a House"
- "¡Amigos!" (Spanish for "friends")
In "Visiting Ours" Tobias and Lindsay go to see Dr. Gunty, marriage counsellor, where they participate in a role-play exercise. In the office, Maeby overhears them mentioning David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston, comparing their relationship to the on-off relationship between Ross and Rachel in Friends.
Narrator: Meanwhile, Maeby found an address in her mother’s appointment book, and was getting closer to learning what her parents were up to.
Tobias: ...David Schwimmer.
Dr. Gunty: What? If I’m no Schwimmer, you’re no Jennifer Aniston!
